12 Of the best reasons you should do an engagement shoot ♡
We often hear that a couple isn’t sure about doing an engagement shoot, and we always ask them to reconsider! There are SO many reasons it’s a good idea. Here are 12 of the best.
What is an engagement shoot?
An engagement shoot is a quick pre-wedding photoshoot. Usually 1 or 2 hours in length. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
The main aim is to get some cute couple photos. Other than that they are a blank canvas and can be made whatever you like.
1. You’ll have some NICE photos of you together –
Ask yourself – do you have enough nice photos as a couple? And we’re not talking about iPhone snaps or Facebook display pictures. We’re talking professional quality photos that make you two look and feel like a billion bucks!
2. You can’t (easily) go back and do it again –
This one is pretty hard to ignore and is definitely FOMO inducing… Unless you plan to re-marry again one day you really only get one time frame for an engagement shoot – before the wedding!
3. You can meet your photographer and get to know one another –
This is a great chance to spend some time with your photographer and see how you work together before the rush of the big day. Part of this is trusting your photographer and getting a feel for how they’ll direct and work with you. You’ll also have a chance to see how they work and ask them any questions you might have about the day in person.
4. It’s a super special time of your life –
And therefore it’s a time you’ll want to remember, forever. There’s no other time like it after all. So it’s definitely worth making the most of the opportunity.
5. You’ll be more comfortable in front of the camera –
Like anything in life, the more times you do something, the easier it gets. If you’re not sure how you’ll be in front of the camera then it’s a great chance to gain some more experience. That way you’ll be more ready for the special day – one less thing to think about on a day when there’s heaps of stuff happening.
6. You can treat it like a practice run –
The engagement shoot is a great chance to run through your plan or test out any ideas for photos. Then you’ll have a good idea of what they’ll turn out like. You can even choose to have it in the same place as your event. But it’s often nicer when they’re somewhere different, like a natural environment that is somewhere scenic.
7. The pictures are awesome for wedding invites –
And Christmas cards! Plus they are a great way to let everyone know you’re getting married on social media – display pictures, Insta updates and even blog posts. May as well make the most of it, right?!
8. It’s a fun chance to get the creative juices flowing –
There are so many possibilities. The best place to start is thinking about something that suits you as a couple. Choose an environment that suits you and take some gorgeous natural portraits. Or if you have a creative idea why not explore that?! There are no rules, just possibilities.
9. It strengthens your bond –
Another thing you can say you’ve done together as a couple. You’ll feel accomplished when you add this one to your list of achievements, especially when you see the photos.
10. You can relive the proposal –
Make him get back on that knee. Lot’s of couples re-enact their engagement, at least for a few photos. While it might not be the actual event the smiles are still the same.
11. Your wedding photos will be better –
Combine the practice time with the experience factor, mix in knowing your photographer, and reduce the pressure of not know how to have your photo taken, and you’re sure to get a better outcome on the big day. And that’s when it matters most!
12. You’ll love looking back on them –
We saved this one for number 12 because it’s easily the most important one. Time passes and memories fade. One day you’ll be able to look back at your engagement photos fondly. That’s one of those priceless and special things in your life that nobody should miss out on if at all possible.
Plus, you’ll have something to show the kids! It’s important that future generations know who you are as part of their identity. After all, an engagement shoot can make up another part of your life story.
We can help you organise prints for the family photo album or scrapbooking, too.
